1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?
Hello queens and kings. How was your day today? I hope it was good. Anyways, enough with the small talk let’s get serious. Today is all about reflecting what me and my group members did throughout the music video. So first is about the conventions we used in the music video. The conventions we used in the blogs were close-ups, over-the-shoulder, pan, tracking and so much more. The convention I like the most is when the main characters were walking together and the phone was tracking them. That was the most memorable scene I remembered in this music video. But enough about what I like, it's about time for the explanation behind the convention used. In one scene a pan was used and I feel like it was used to capture the scene of the male pulling the chair and the female lead sitting then focusing on the male lead walking towards his seat. So basically letting the audience focus on one action happening in the scene at a time. Close ups were used to show the audiences what the characters were looking at closely on the phone. Over the shoulder was used in a fight scene to show who female character was fighting with. Tracking was also used in one fighting scene so the viewers can see closely on the action happening instead of it being far away. Though I didn’t mention it, long shots and high angles were also used. The reason high angle was used was because I think that we wanted to see an angle of use looking at pictures of the main characters on the phone and long shots were used to see some of the settings we were filming at. The second thing I wanted to talk about is that I feel like the music video represents issues of gender because of the female and male lead going into a fight because of a breaking up and betrayal as he was dating her friend.
How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?
Next, our music video engages with our viewers as this music video connects to the audiences because since this music video focuses on breakups and betrayals and almost everyone would have experienced a breakup and also got betrayed before the audience would feel a connection between the female lead because they have both experienced breakup, betrayal, or both. And what would you feel if not only you were broken up with but were also betrayed by one of your friends. You would obviously feel the emotions such as anger, betrayal, sadness and other emotions Mariajose expressed in the music video. And some viewers could also feel a connection with those emotions too. Some people would also have friends that would help them get through a breakup like the friends of the female lead. So I would say that it would be distributed on youtube, tiktok or any platform because of how well it can resonate to audiences and their experiences with breakups and a betrayal of one or more friends and it also entertains as some of the scenes are unexpected and looking back at the video it was quite fun to watch as I was reminiscing my emotions on certain scenes. It could also inform others that everyone goes through a breakup and some people get betrayed too. And they are not alone in this matter either which can give some but not all a boost that they may need to get over a breakup as there are many other people who care about you just like the friends of the female lead.
How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
I feel like my production skill increased a little bit because I’m able to realize some conventions when watching the video though I needed some help on realizing some of them as I searched up some of the conventions on my MS term powerpoint. I was also able to understand that being prepared is not always a good thing because of what happened to the cake. And if you read some of my blogs and watched the music video you can see that the cake was messed up. I mentioned it a few times in my blogs so you can see how much of an impact it made on me. I worked so hard to have it ruined. But anyways I learned my lesson and next time If I have to decorate something I know that I should decorate it right before the scene starts instead of doing it super early and leaving it out like before. I also learned to decorate a cake though it was not the best but it's still a good skill to have and overtime it can improve to become better. I also learned to put up a video on Vimeo and to embed it into my blogs so in the future when I do need to use Vimeo I won’t have any problems like I did before.
How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?
And some technologies that we integrated in our music video were two phones used for filming. The reason why we used to phone was to get a shot outside the car and another shot in the car to get a closer look at what's happening in the car. We also used one of the phones for a scene that involved taking pictures and looking at the pictures. CapCut was used for the editing process. Some things we used in CapCut was putting the music in the video and changing the lighting to make it look like a flashback. I also used Vimeo to post the music video though it was complicated at first because the video wouldn’t show up on the blog. We also planned to use a speaker so we could put the music as the background but instead we used CapCut like I mentioned before. But it’s good to have a backup plan just in case something happens to CapCut. Well that seems to be all for today. I hope you guys had a good day and be safe out there. Bye queens and kings.
Sincerely, Shabriana Chevelon
